The Mount Rushmore

Songs Named After Alcohol

There are a lot of famous songs named after alcohol. “Red Red Wine” not only had two Reds in it, it also was a hit two times—once for Neil Diamond in the 60s and then for UB40 two decades later.

The Big Bopper wrote “White Lightning.”

Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss sand a “Whiskey Lullaby.”

Country music is especially fond of songs with beer in the title. Many of those songs are hits.

In general, there are a slew of songs across genres with alcohol in the title.

The list could go on and on.

But we don’t construct lists here at Sweet Livin’ Productions.

We construct Mount Rushmores.

And you’ve probably been wondering what the Mount Rushmore of Songs Named After Alcohol is.

Wonder no more.

It’s time to turn that wonder into knowledge.

Hennessy” by 2Pac: It’s by 2pac, the greatest rapper and most beloved musician by Sweet Livin’ Productions. No other explanation is necessary.

Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles: Not only is this a great song, but it also takes the namesake of our favorite Cheap, Disgusting Canadian Whisky. This is a no brainer. And while we don’t always rank favorites of the Mount Rushmores, this is the favorite here because drinking the whisky while listening to the song is a perfect pairing that would make any respectable wine master wine sommelier blush with extreme jealousy. When you drink the whisky while listening to the song, it makes both better than they already were—and they are damn good to begin with.

Corlos Rossi” by E-40: Not only did E-40 get to switch over from Franzia with this gong, but he also had me calling this cheap wine “Carlos Rossi” like the song rather than “Carlo Rossi” like the label. Also, this is a great song. Also, I still call the wine “Carlos Rossi.”

Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffett: This is not recency bias with the recent passing of Buffett at the time of this Mount Rushmore construction. This is because this is—will always be—as a classic song. Margaritas are great and so is this song. This song encompasses much of what Sweet Livin’ is all about, including the chill vibe.
