2Pac Friday
23 February 2024
As this is Black History Month, it is appropriate for include a 2Pac song that reflects upon history as 2Pac does in this track.
This is a raw track in terms of not only the overall production, but also the chorus, and the message: 2Pac does not hold back in his views and is quite straightforward on his perspective of a “Young Black Male” in the United States in the early 90s looking back on American history and how it influenced the present.
While I cannot agree with his dismissal of Martin Luther King whom I not only immensely respect but has influenced me greatly, I have to respect 2Pac’s perspective and position, coming from experiences much different than my own, and learn from 2Pac.
This track is very indicative of 2Pac’s first album, 2Pacalpyse Now, which is letter party or pop than future albums, and more serious and contemplative about society around him. Ironically, though this is his first album, in many ways it is arguably his most mature.
