This 1990s rounded out with this 2Pac featuring Outlawz album, Still I Rise. This track, “Black Jesuz,” is especially appropriate with this 2Pac Friday kicking off this long Christmas Weekend.
In 2Pac’s time—the 70s, 80s, and 90s,—the predominant images in the United States were white, including Christmas, whether it being it secular with Santa Claus or religious with Jesus. So a long like this is especially important in such a context. I mean, given my background, I cannot speak to this personally, but it seems to be the case.
It is also just a really good job, very indicative of this whole album, which is really solid and maintains a similar vibe throughout. It is a very soulful album, with generally upbeat and optimistic messages. So this is great for this time of year.
