We continue of this post-Fourth of July pathway here with our third “When I Get Free” 2Pac Friday in a row.

But it can be a little trickier than it seems. While this week’s “When I Get Free” from Until the End of Time bears the same as the first “When I Get Free” from the second disc R U Still Down? (Remember Me), it is actually more similar to “When I Get Free II” from R U Still Down? This “When I Get Free” and “When I get Free II” are somewhat of the same song, with the first two verses being almost the same, with some minor alternations, and the production this time in the later Until the Time version is done by longtime 2Pac producer Johnny “J,” who is largely responsible for much of 2Pac’s later sound. “When I Get Free II” was produced by Chris and Conrad Rosser, hip hop producing brothers (I think) from Atlanta.

While “When I Get Free" II,” contains only the two verses, this “When I Get Free” features a third verse, also rapped by 2Pac. As such, we have a natural progression from the one-verse "“When I Get Free” from R U Still Down? to the two-verse “When I Get Free II” also from R U Still Down? to the this three-verse banger from Until the End of Time, which came out three-and-a-half years after R U Still Down?

Whether three-and-a-half years later or over 27 years later: yes, we are still down, 2Pac.
