2Pac Friday
14 July 2023
Last 2Pac Friday, the first Friday of July, was “California Love,” a Dr. Dre-produced song from All Eyez on Me Book 1, so it only seems appropriate that we progress on the second friday of July–also being the second 2Pac Friday of July–to the Dr. Dre-produced song that opens up Book 2 of All Eyez on Me: ”Can’t C Me.”
While this song has not been in the party rotation as much as “California Love”, this is another one of 2pac songs that can be danced to. It has an energetic beat that opens up a party-type vibe for Book 2, even if the subsequent tracks are not quite as dance floor-material as this one is. That is likely because these are the only two tracks on the album produced by Dr. Dre.
“Can’t C Me” also opens the visual theme of the album’s title that deals with sight All Eyez on Me, which may not be quite as prevalent in Book 1, but consistently prevails in Book 2 with tracks like “Picture Me Rollin’,” “Ain’t Hard 2 Find,” “Heaven Ain't Hard 2 Find,” and the album album’s title track “All Eyez on Me.” This play on sight and the visual–being able to see 2Pac or not–makes all of these songs potentially hugely appropriate for future 2Pac Fridays and makes “Can’t C Me” the perfect track to precede them in 2Pac Friday appearances, just as it precedes them in Book 2.
Essentially, “Can’t C Me” is the first chapter of a great book, a book one can read and reread many times, which I certainly have. In fact, I am an avid book reader and All Eyez on Me is a book I have read more than any other, even more than All Eyez on Me Book 1, which I have also read many times.
Start off your weekend right, on a good chapter, with “Can’t C Me,” with 2Pac still present in your weekend, even if not visible to the naked eye.
And if “Can’t C Me” leads you to reading more chapters of this bestselling book during this 2pac Friday or remainder of the weekend, then so be it. It means you are doing something right with your life.
